THE NEW GENERATION OF REFRIGERATION

Refrigeration systems

The Heidekreis ostrich farm in Vierde relies on refrigeration technology from Rivacold CI GmbH

At the Heidekreis ostrich farm, two new THUM and THCL split units from Rivacold now take over the refrigeration of the cold rooms for cooling the ostrich meat.

The Heidekreis ostrich farm in Vierde relies on refrigeration technology from Rivacold CI GmbH in Fellbach near Stuttgart.

The farm is the lifelong dream of Marcell Hambuch, who gradually converted his parents’ farm from pig farming to ostrich farming in 2017. This is because ostrich meat is very low in cholesterol, contains valuable unsaturated fatty acids and is now very popular with consumers. The young breeder has thus future-proofed his business – just as he has with the refrigeration of his products.
Refrigeration is an important factor in ensuring the cold chain and compliance with applicable hygiene rules and regulations for food. After cutting, the ostrich meat is vacuum-packed as quickly as possible, flash-frozen at -46 °C and then stored at -21 °C.

Two new THUM and THCL split units from the Italian brand manufacturer Rivacold, which were sold by the German sales partner in Fellbach, are now responsible for cooling the cold storage rooms. The outdoor units shown here are connected to the cold storage cells in the warehouse, constantly extract heat from each room and thus from the stored products via cooling circuits and ensure permanent freshness thanks to continuously low temperatures. The cooling capacity of the units is 2 kW at -25 °C cold room and 32 °C ambient temperature and 3.5 kW at 5 °C cold room and 32 °C ambient temperature. This means that the high-quality meat is not only perfectly prepared for direct sale in the farm store, but also for trade and HACCP-compliant shipping via the farm’s own webshop www.mahabu.de.
